Do Not Presume
Authentic faith is founded on the promises of God in His word; it is not presumptuous. Presumptuous ideas about faith lead to attitudinal or behavioral sin; and to missing the mark of faith’s true meaning. Presumptuous attitudes are present when, in the name of “faith,” a person either: 1) thinks faith is wishful thinking or a fanciful attitude, assuming God should relieve all their discomfort and jump to their request; or 2) rejects any responsibility on their part to offer a devoted heart and the commitment to serve Him regardless of their life condition. Presumption desires the promise of God without living a life for God and is hypocritical in His sight (Matthew 15:8).
To protect from a presumptuous attitude you must root your faith in what God in Christ has provided in His redemption, not on what you might gain through presumptuous faith exercises (Galatians 2:20). Amen
