God Has A Reason For Everything
End-time prophecies in the book of Genesis?
Genesis 5:1-3
"5 1This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. 3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth."
So begins chapter five of the book of Genesis. It is one "begat"{I'm already yawning} after another.
Adam begot Seth.
Seth begot Enosh.
Enosh begot Cainan.
Cainan begot Mahalalel.
Mahalalel begot Jared.
Jared begot Enoch.
Enoch begot Methuselah.
Methuselah begot Lamech.
Lamech had a son and he called his name Noah.
(Are you asleep yet?ZZZZzzzzzzz)
I used to skim...ok; let me be honest...skip over these kinds of chapters and wonder why God put them, and others like it, in the Bible. that no detail is superfluous but this chapter sure seemed to be.
As usual, the Holy Spirit has a reason for every word in scripture. There are hidden nuggets of truth; meanings hidden in names in the Bible.
Now that I understand a few more things, this chapter has taken on a whole new meaning and significance. It's not just filler or to make the book thicker.
I will never see it the same way ever again.
This was such a blessing to me, I thought I'd share it with all of you.
With all this chit chat about the recently released movie, "Noah," it occurred to me that perhaps a little perspective is in order.
Though not Biblically accurate by ANY stretch of the imagination nor an accurate portrayal of our AWESOME GOD, it at least indicates curiosity about spiritual things, however skewed. It may even inspire some to actually open the Book and read the real story.
People will do what they want anyway. Either they will feel that their hard view of God is validated or they'll be curious enough to check the facts. The Holy Spirit is most capable of handling those He is calling. They may even find one of us who knows The Lord and open up an opportunity to preach the gospel to them!
Add to all that the fact that two other movies, "The Son Of God," and "God's Not Dead," have aired this year and it adds up to this: people are hungering to know God. He is moving in these last days in a mighty way. THAT'S MY GOD!
My humble opinion--we ain't seen nothin' yet!
Now; let's look at the above passage again, align each name with it's meaning translated from the Hebrew and see what turns up. There's a message to us from the Holy Spirit!
Adam.............man
Seth...............appointed
Enosh.............mortal
Cainan............sorrow
Mahalalel........blessed God
Jared...............down
Enoch..............mouth
Methuselah.....his death will bring
Lamech...........despairing
Noah...............rest
"Man is appointed mortal sorrow; but the blessed God will come down teaching. His death will bring the despairing rest."
What does this passage have to do with the end times?
I'm sure you noticed the curious meaning of Methuselah's name?
Just why do you think Enoch was so motivated to serve God with his whole heart? Because God had spoken to him and shared with him what He planned to do, hence the name of his son. It is obvious, from it's meaning, that when this boy died, God was going to bring down world wide judgment on mankind that had become so irreparably riddled with evil.
Everyone else who happened to know Enoch's son understood what his name meant. You can imagine that every sneeze or hiccup, his neighbors wondered, "is this it? Is this the day God sends judgment?"
With every birthday, I can just imagine all the angels, (especially the warrior ones), asking God, "This year, God?"....and next year...."is it this year?" (Water pails in hand?).
But our God LOVES mercy, NOT judgment. He is slow to anger. This boy embodies that characteristic. God drew that boy's years out on and on and on until he was the longest living man ever at 969 years old; older than even Adam, who lived to be 930. He did not want to give that order.
But at last, He said, "Enough!"....and the day Noah and his family were shut into the ark, the day Enoch "walked into heaven," at His command, the fountains of the deep burst open, the windows of the heavens were opened and the greatest destruction of all time fell upon the earth. Everything and everyone died except for the eight people in the safety of the ark.
Enoch, who never tasted death but was translated instantly by God and taken into heaven, is a picture of the RAPTURE GENERATION. We are that generation, children of God!
On which "DAY" was he taken into heaven? THE VERY DAY THE FLOOD BEGAN. The day God shut the door of the ark!
When the worst tribulation hits the earth, threatening to destroy all life except that God cuts short those days, BELIEVERS WILL NOT BE HERE.
More importantly, though, as in all of scripture, God is pointing to His Beloved Son in this account of the real-life event: the great flood.
Who was it that took our place?
Who endured all God's fiery indignation and wrath in our stead?
Who's death brought to the despairing rest?
JESUS, that's Who!
From now on, when you see a rainbow after a storm, don't think only of no more physical" flood. Those waters were waters of judgment. That bow in the clouds also means no more judgment; no more CONDEMNATION..
{see Isaiah 54.}
The word in Hebrew for,"bow," is "qeset." It is the same word as used for "bow and arrow," only God's "bow," used to shoot judgment at man. NO MORE SHOOTING ARROWS OF JUDGMENT!!! HALLELUIA!!!
Nope...There are NO insignificant details; not one superfluous word, description, number or story in THE WHOLE BIBLE!...and now you know why the Holy Spirit put this formerly boring chapter in the Book.
Even if we don't always understand....and we don't.....God really does have a reason for EVERYTHING!
